Arizona Trip

Major League Baseball trip

A little late Christmas present for Jax. We went to see the Diamondbacks in Phoenix. He was stoked to see Carson Kelly, who is from Oregon and who he has a signed ball from thanks to his baseball coach Tony.

The trip started off with a typical brain injury fail on my part, losing my phone. I had went to the bathroom and left it on the toilet paper holder. Thankfully someone turned it in. We were carrying on our bags so I had my roller bag, plus my backpack and my phone in my back pocket with my travel stuff all on it including boarding passes. Another lesson learned and reminder as I have posted before, but now know I need to always check my bag. It is too much for me to have a carry on and roller bag plus going through security and showing ID and such. Too overwhelming for my brain, it’s definitely worth however much it costs to check my bag and the extra time. I cannot handle having to handle multiple things and this time I was flying with my son and husband and honestly just that can be more difficult for me. This is the second time I have lost my phone at the airport. I need to really find a solid plan for travel and stick to it. Last time I flew to Moab I also left my phone. That time I had to check in on a kiosk to print my bag times and again left my phone at that kiosk but got it back. So point is, things not in routine for me REALLY throw me off. Moab time I had a Fanny pack on plus my backpack and checked a bag and again it was too my much and I learned the Fanny pack was too much with a backpack. I need to just simply check my bag and stick with my carry on backpack. We will see how that works next week when I fly again.

Friday:

Checking out Scottsdale and finding a cactus to take a pic with that looks like Chris’s Baseballism shirt:)

Baseballism I’m Scottsdale

Before the game we hung out in the air conditioning in our room and started watching Outer Banks on Netflix with Jax. He watches it and so we started to watch it with him. It isn’t bad. Always love being able to find something to all watch together, perfect down time before the game, especially since I missed my nap today.

Game 1: Diamondbacks vs Padres Friday: Two of Jaxson’s favorite players Madison Bumgardner and Carson Kelly are on the Diamondbacks and he hasn’t seen Carson play yet live. We have Madison when he was on the Giants. Thankfully the stadium is air conditioned, so amazing. I was actually cold and will bring a hoodie next game. The end of the game was most exciting, tied 2-2 and the first batter of the last inning for the Diamondbacks hit a walk off home run! Great game for Jax to see two of his favorites playing.

We sprung for great seats for this trip!
Walking back to our hotel after the game and notice this cool bat statue.

Saturday:

We did a ghost Town tour in Jerome, AZ. It was amazing. My son and husband love history and so do I. My son is down with paranormal activity too so before the game we planned this and it was amazing. Our tour guide Ginger was so knowledgeable. At the end of the tour I bought some books to learn more and took a page of notes on my phone since my memory sucks. There is SO much to this little town that once was a mining town. We will definitely plan a trip back to Arizona to see a few places and this will definitely be one of our stops to stay the night in the old hospital now hotel or in the old brothel now an Air BnB. Look up Jerome, Arizona and check it out. Some very fascinating history like i mentioned in one of the pics like the graveyard tour and all we learned. Glad my coma wasn’t a saved by the bell situation. This was a perfect trip for the day before our game. We had some amazing BBQ before heading back to Phoenix too.

History about the building where we are delicious BBQ
My delicious salad
Can’t wait to read it
Can’t wait to read this too
Such an amazing tour, our guide Ginger was fantastic
Checking out historical sites and ghost hunting
So these are graves and people would be buried in when in comas and bells attached to their fingers so If movement the bells would ring and groundskeepers on graveyard shift would dig them out. This was huge in the 1800s and during pandemics like the Spanish flu.

Game 2: Diamondbacks vs Padres Saturday

We sat on the 1st base line Saturday above the dugout. It was cool you could see all the Padres players in the dugout standing up, couldn’t see that last night where we were. Much closer tonight.

The first game Friday Jax got to see his first walk off home run, Saturday’s game Jax got to see a player be ejected from the game first inning. So it’s been exciting and lots of firsts for him which is always cool to have when we go see games.

Second night seats

What a great little trip to check out Arizona and some baseball. We will definitely be back and plan a trip where we check out multiple spots in Arizona next time like Sedona, The Grand Canyon and stay a night in Jerome at one of the haunted hotels. I’m exhausted but it was worth it.

Last game at Chase we attended.

Tyler Gilbert had his first starting game pitching and pitched a no hitter. It was so exciting and huge. Great game. Jax and Chris said the best they have been too. What a great weekend and games.

Congratulations Tyler Gilbert
What an exciting game!
Celebrating Tyler Gilbert and The Diamondbacks big win!

What an amazing trip!!! For your phone…I can give you this holder that goes across your body like a purse. Its just a strap and holds your phone and all your cards. I like to set my phone down and lose it all the time, that’s why I bought it..

If the boys are in to planes, if you ever make it to Tucson, AZ the Pima Air & Space Museum is AMAZING. Planes from all the wars and the ‘boneyard’ full of all the old TWA 747s from the 80/90’s and retired Air Force Ones. And Tombstone is about an hour drive…pretty cool little town if you like old country/cowboy history.

Have a safe trip home and check that bag!!!

I am checking my bag most definitely! And will look into one of this straps/bags. We want to come back and check out Tombstone and more when my dad retires and bring him along:) We have been to the air museums I think:) My dad loves westerns so tombstone is on the list to bring him back next time and go plus we want to do Sedona and Grand Canyon and more. Jerome was neat though. Loved all the history.

Nice trip!! Love the pictures! I’m so ready to travel again. Guess I need to just do it. Doesn’t seem like this pandemic is going to end anytime soon.

Also, sorry to hear about you losing your phone. I agree with Michelle about purchasing the side purse. It’s small, holds essentials and you never have to remove it.. well only to go through TSA.
