Love Your Brain, Portland Maine

I made it to the airport and was way to early but killed time reading and writing. Good news is I didn’t lose or misplace anything as of getting to PDX airport. Now to fly to DFW, then ORD then Maine! From Portland to Portland, west coast to east coast.

The first two nights I was at a hotel resting and decompressing from my travels. A restaurant and bar was attached so I ate there. It was a great reminder of why I don’t drink, and honestly a little loud for me and my noise sensitivity. The thing that was bad about it was that there were tons of people having a great time drinking and drinking then jumping on the Harley’s with no helmets…. Because there is no helmet law in Maine:( To each there own, just two things that are hard to see since both have changed my life and luckily I’m alive to witness shit like this.

My lobster 🦞 roll and Virgin Moscow mule
I don’t drink. I don’t care if others do. But be responsible for yourself and others.
I walked to breakfast from my hotel one day and the bread here was SO good!
And ordered Thai for dinner one night

I am a big reviewer since I travel a lot and also since I don’t remember stuff well, reviews help me find places and then remember places I have been. Jessymunch826 on Yelp:)

The Love Your Brain Retreat was AMAZING. It’s truly such an great organization and I truly appreciated the opportunity to attend and appreciate Brie, Shaun and Holly for donating to raise money for the cause. This retreat was truly life changing. I learned from other TBI survivors who were 2,3,4,5 years out and others who were much further along. The community it creates is incredible. A common theme I noticed is that a lot of us feel lonely and are lonely as so many people walk out of your life after a TBI. I’m so thankful for all the people I met and for this organization. I can’t even write about it all because there is SO much to it that I can’t put into words.

Grateful, grateful, grateful for this opportunity and so excited that my husband and I were able to donate what I did not raise in order to give back because this is such a must for survivors. Two younger gentlemen were sent by their moms and not all stoked and at the end they both were SO grateful their moms “made” them come. I learned from people much younger than I and from people older than I, but we all had a common ground and could relate to each other. What a week, what an experience 💚💚💚

Thank you for a week filled with incredible, healthy food and all to all of the staff preparing it all the LYB staff who made this week work our seem less.

My mask I created about my injury and how I feel

Best part is that after security at the airport I left an item behind and they paged overhead and said it was a paper mache mask 😂🤦🏼‍♀️. I did not lose anything this trip except my mask and I got it back lol. At least it wasn’t my phone or wallet and my friend Emilee who attended the retreat had heard the page and knew it was someone from our retreat 🤣

A few pics from the week

Again, what a wonderful week and wonderful organization that Love Your Brain is.

I am a TBI Survivor and woman who has been through a lot of good and bad. My goal by this blog is to share what I have learned and how life has happened for me and not to me. I have found purpose in it all and am here to share it. I am also sober and quitting drinking was the best choice for me. I will post about TBI, Brain Injury, life, travel, lessons learned and more. I am not a doctor or a nurse, I am a traumatic brain injury survivor who has lived 40 years of life and have an amazing mindset from it all. None of this is medical advice, that is what your doctor is for or 911 if you are having an true emergency and need help right away. I am here for community and to share all I have learned, you never know who it will help. Click on the white title of the blog post to read, just saying in case you might be confused like I am with all this 🤣
